Heritage Open Days 2025 in Swadlincote

This September, Heritage Open Days return to South Derbyshire, giving residents the chance to explore our area’s history, architecture, and cultural heritage. A series of special events will be running across Swadlincote and surrounding villages, many of which are free to attend.


Highlights from the programme

  • St Wilfrid’s Church, Barrow-on-Trent – Open Saturday 13 September (10:30am – 4pm, with tours at 11am and 2pm) and Sunday 14 September (12 noon – 4pm).

  • St Peter’s Church, Hartshorne – Open Saturday 13 September, 10am – 4pm.

  • Commonwealth War Graves Tour – Guided walk at Swadlincote District (Church Gresley) Cemetery, Sunday 14 September at 10am.

  • Magic Attic Heritage Walk – A guided tour through local sites on Wednesday 17 September, 1:30pm. Meet at Dethick Hall Car Park.

  • Swad Heritage Festival at Sharpe’s Pottery Museum – Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September, 11am – 4:30pm. Displays, activities, live music, and food.

  • Talk: “Derbyshire Born & Bred” – Local stories with Shirley Horton at Sharpe’s Pottery Museum, Thursday 18 September, 10:30am.

  • Calke Abbey and St Mary’s Church, Marston on Dove – Open on 20–21 September during regular visiting hours.

  • Hartshorne Upper Hall – Guided tours on Saturday 20 September from 1:30pm to 5pm (pre-booking required).
